If you have not taken the ACT or SAT, you may take the RESIDUAL ACT (RACT) in order to register for classes at WVSU. You may obtain an ACT Residual Registration Form from the Office of Career Services or you may download the form here
The cost for taking this test is $52.00. Before registering for the RACT, you must first submit an application to the Admissions Office. The scores from this test cannot be used at any other institution.

  • Complete 24 semester hours at the 100 level and above
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 and a minimum of 2.50 in major courses
  • Complete English 101 with at least a grade of "C"
  • Attend a Co-op orientation meeting
  • Have a positive recommendation from the Department Chair for the student's major
  • In some situations, be willing to participate in two semesters of Co-op placement

The Federal College Work Study program is a form of financial aid that provides the opportunity to earn more than minimum wage working on campus or at a community service site. 

If you are interested in this program, you must first request work study in the Financial Aid Office.  Work study placement is coordinated through the Office of Career Services.

365体育世界杯 In order to participate in this program you must be eligible for financial aid.  Contact the Office of Student Financial Assistance for the eligibility requirements.  Once awarded College Work Study funds, you may contact the Office of Career Services for placement.  Most of the work sites are on campus, however there are a few community service sites off campus.  The amount of the award received will determine the amount of hours worked.  The pay rate is $9.00 or $9.50 per hour, depending on the job site.  If you receive the maximum award ($2,250 per semester), you will work approximately 15-16 hours per week.  To be placed, you will be required to complete an application packet and be interviewed by the Placement Coordinator. All first-time work study students will be required to participate in a Customer Service training program.



Work Study Supervisors
If your department would like to employ work study students for the next academic year, please complete a job request form (see below) by the end of July. A separate form must be completed for each type of job assignment.

We will do our best to meet your requests. However, there is no guarantee that the number of students requested will be provided. Most students are assigned during the first three weeks of the Fall semester. However, some students students may be assigned later in the Fall and Spring semesters once their financial aid paperwork is complete. Students are assigned based on whether their skills match those indicated on your job request form.

At the end of the academic year, or once the student has ceased working in your department, please submit a performance evaluation form (see below).

The CLEP allows you to receive college credit by taking a standardized test over material covered in an introductory course.
The following is a list of exams available from the College Level Examination Program.

Composition and Literature - American Literature, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, College Composition (essay required), College Composition Modular, English Literature, and Humanities.
History and Social Sciences - American Government, Human Growth and Development, Introduction to Educational Psychology, Introductory Psychology, Introductory Sociology, Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Social Sciences and History, U.S. History I: Early Colonization to 1877, U. S. History II: 1865 to the Present, Western Civilization I: Ancient Near East to 1648, Western Civilization II:1648 to the Present.
Science and Mathematics - Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, College Algebra, College Mathematics, and Natural Sciences.
Business - Financial Accounting, Introductory Business Law, Information Systems, Principles of Management, and Principles of Marketing.
World Languages - French Language (Levels 1 and 2), German Language (Levels 1 and 2), and Spanish Language (Levels 1 and 2).

The DSST tests allow you to receive college credit by taking a standardized test in a specific subject area. The following is a list of exams available:
Business  Business Ethics and Society, Business Mathematics, Human Resource Management, Computing and Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Money and Banking,Organizational Behavior, Personal Finance, Principles of Finance, Principles of Supervision

*In addition to a minimum score of 47 on the multiple choice test, an examinee must also receive a passing grade on the required speech section. A special test date/time will be scheduled for this test on an individual basis.

CLEP - The fee is $89.00 per test.  Prior to the test date, you will need to create an account through the My Account Registration portal on the CLEP website and submit payment directly there (plus administration fee; see below).

DSST- The fee is $85.00 per test which will be required on the test date (plus administration fee; see below).

A $15.00 (per test) administration fee in the form of a check or money order payable to West Virginia State University will be collected on the test day. DO NOT include with registration form.

Test scores will be available upon completion of the examination (with a few exceptions). You may register online, a registration form can be mailed at your request by contacting the Office of Career Services at 304-766-3250 or a registration form may be picked up at 108 Wallace Hall.

Department:  Athletics
Duties:   WVSU Athletics is looking for office assistants along with person(s) interested in being equipment manager/ film manager/ practice-game assistant.
Days/Hours: 
Qualifications & Skills:  Basic computer skills, can officiate athletic events.  Must be available to work home sporting events at nights and weekends.  Lifting of water jugs, towels, etc.

Department:  Biology Core Lab Worker
Duties:  Students will help prepare laboratories for student taking Biology laboratory classes. You will be required to help with preparation and cleaning of items used in these laboratories. You will be trained on cleaning protocols, solution preparation, and some microbiology. Students learn how to navigate a Biology Lab and along the way they learn many useful skills that will help them during their time at WVSU.
Days/Hours:  No specific times
Qualifications & Skills: Science related major is helpful but not required.

Duties:  Assist students, staff, and faculty with logging in.  Report any network, hardware or software problems.  Answer general questions regarding software.  Maintain an orderly and open computer lab.

Department:  Student Support Services and Upward Bound - Lab Assistant/Tutor and Office Assistant
Duties:  To assist in the TRIO computer labs. Sign students into the lab, provide assistance with printing, answer questions, maintain clean work areas. Help with Office and clerical duties such as answering the phones, making copies, shredding files, making and distributing flyers and assisting with promotional tables. Provide mentoring and tutoring. Assist in coordinating and implementing community services and TRIO activities.
